Engine
A motor vehicle engine is made up of many components and occasionally certain components can fail. Our technicians are fully trained to repair all engine problems using many years of knowledge and diagnostic equipment.
Clutch and Gearbox
If your car transmission is causing problems, the team at Oakleigh can help. If it is a slipping or worn clutch, problems changing or selecting gears, or trouble with an automatic gearbox not making gear changes as it should, give us a call.
Every manual car or van has a clutch, which will eventually wear. One easy way to tell if your clutch is worn and beginning to slip, is to accelerate up an incline. If your engine note rises, but you are not going any faster, then it is highly likely your clutch is slipping, and needs to be changed – so pay us a visit right away!
There is no recommended replacement time for a clutch, as the extent to which it wears is entirely down to the way in which your vehicle is driven, and the type of trips it makes. So, if you think your clutch is beginning to wear, or starting to make strange noises, then drop in to see us and we will advise.
Some gearbox problems can be easily solved by making adjustments to the gear selection mechanisms, while others may require more major replacement of components. At Oakleigh, we will inspect and advise you of the options open to you.

Brakes
Most vehicles today are equipped with front disc brakes and rear drum brakes. These are operated via a system that consists of a hydraulic circuit linked in turn to the brake pedal. Pressure generated by the pedal (the braking force) is transmitted by the brake fluid via the hydraulic circuit to perform the braking action.
It's not always obvious that your brakes need replacing but there are a few warning signs to look out for. Noise, juddering or your car pulling to one side when you apply your brakes, these could indicate excessive wear to your pads or discs. Or, it could mean that a mechanical or hydraulic component is sticking or seizing. Simple wear and tear can also mean that you experience a reduction in brake performance. Don't ignore the warning signs, neglected brakes can fail when you need them most. So just to be on the safe side, why not call into Oakleigh and we will be happy to advise you.

Cambelts
Cambelts are an essential part of your vehicle and not replacing your cambelt at the manufacturer's recommended guidelines can result in serious damage to your car's engine. At Oakleigh Garage Services we are keen to help you avoid huge repair bills caused by cambelt failure.
Unlike gearboxes and clutches where problems can be diagnosed, Cambelts will naturally wear and require replacement after a set time or mileage interval. However each car manufacturer will recommend different intervals for different models. Failure to follow the manufacturer's guidelines can lead to costly damage, so we recommend that you contact us to enquire about when your cambelt should be changed, it's a simple process, but can be far more expensive if you overlook it.
Try to diarise your cambelt replacement and do not exceed the recommended replacement times. Ask us for a quote today as the costs of cambelt replacements are incomparable to that of failure repair work. If you have any other concerns about cambelts, do not hesitate to contact us and we will be happy to offer free and friendly advice.

Exhausts
Your vehicle exhaust is made up of a number of parts, and usually only one or two parts of the system will need replacing at any one time. You can usually tell if your exhaust system has a fault if the exhaust is making a blowing sound or if you can smell gasses inside the vehicle. It is advisable to have your exhaust checked every 6250 miles or atleast once a year to check for damage, corrosion or failure. We can replace individual parts or the full exhaust system depending on what is required.

Shock Absorbers
Shock absorbers are very important when it comes to road handling of your vehicle. Shock absorbers keep the tyre in contact with the road at all times, they cushion the road impact and prevent excessive chassis rebound.
If the front of your car dips when braking, is swayed by side winds or feels like it is handling poorly, there is a high chance you have faulty shock absorbers. Faulty shock absorbers often go unnoticed and drivers tend to adjust their driving style to compensate, however warn shock absorbers can:
- Increase braking distance
- Cause travel sickness
- Cause Aquaplaning in wet weather conditions
Shock Absorbers need to be checked regularly and should be fitted in pairs to retain the cars stability. At Oakleigh our expert technicians can advise you if your shock absorbers and are faulty and fit and replace them for you if necessary.
